Software/Hardware Change Requests for Computer Labs
The Technology Council will recommend software and hardware standards and procedures for change in Muskegon Community College's computer-based labs, based on recommendations from the Academic Vice President.
Procedures/Information
To help establish and maintain an innovative and reliable teaching and learning environment, the Technology Council will develop recommendations regarding operating system standards, widely-used software standards, hardware standards, and procedures for change in the computer-based instructional laboratories used throughout Muskegon Community College (on and off campus). The Technology Council will seek and use the input of the college community in developing these recommendations. Specifically, the Council will seek input from the Academic Vice President before recommending standards for operating systems and widely used software. The Technology Council will submit its recommendations to the President.
The Technology Council will recommend software and hardware standards for the computer-based labs, based on recommendations from the Academic Vice President. The standards will include the operating system software and other software installed for wide use by students. The Technology Council will not get involved in determining which non-standard software should be installed on the lab computers. However, to help ensure the stability of the computer-based lab environment:
- All requests for OIT to make changes to the current computer-based lab environment will be reviewed and approved by the Academic Vice President or his/her designee.
- Requests for major changes to the current computer-based lab environment, such as hardware and operating system changes, will normally be submitted to OIT by May 15 of the previous fiscal year in order to allow sufficient time to plan for and implement the changes.
- OIT will receive all other requests from the Academic Vice President's office for changes to the current environment (including requests to install textbook software) no later than four weeks prior to the last day of the preceding semester.
- Other changes during the semester will not normally be made. Exceptions will require the approval of both the Academic Vice President and the IT Contract Administrator.
