Scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
A National Science Foundation STEM Initiative in Collaboration with Muskegon Community College
Muskegon Scholars is an NSF-funded scholarship program for Muskegon Community College students entering the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). In particular, Scholarships are awarded to qualifying students declaring a major in a science, Math, or engineering field. The grant will provide for educational expenses incurred by the student beyond what the student is expected to pay based upon the FAFSA (known as the student's Expected Family Contribution or EFC). Scholarships of up to $4,200 in total per student are available.
However, Muskegon Scholars provides more than just a scholarship, it is a community of scholars. Students accepted into the program will meet regularly to help each other with their course work and study skills, as well as work and family responsibilities. There is also an opportunity for the scholars to share their experiences via a web portal. In addition, seminars are held where university educators and local industry professionals give presentations. Students also can attend off-campus exhibits related to STEM fields.
The meetings, presentations, and field trips will be facilitated by the program coordinators, Toby Moleski and Diane Krasnewich. They will also assist the scholars with scheduling classes each semester.
